PHILIPPE COUSTEAU FOUNDATION SOON LOCATED IN TORROELLA DE MONTGRÍ - ESTARTIT
Torroella de Montgrí-L'Estartit is the municipality chosen by the Philippe Cousteau Union of Oceans Foundation to locate its new global scientific headquarters. This scientific project comes to light thanks to the agreement that the non-profit organization has reached with the Mascort Foundation, which gives up the Jocs de l'Estartit space, and also the municipality's consistory. This headquarters will serve to, among other initiatives, promote the choice and subsequent reintroduction of marine animal and plant species in danger of extinction throughout the world. Or for eradication, starting with the Caulerpa, an invasive algae that has caused the almost total disappearance of the Posidonia oceanica, altering the biological order. There will be two amoeba-shaped areas with water fences between 1,700 and 31,000 liters and surrounded by melts between 3 and 4 meters deep for the reproduction of spices. The quarantine fences, the culture space and nearly two hundred aquariums are added. A space will be established that will serve as a water control laboratory to analyze polluting elements in inland waters and in the sea, and the building will also have a marine biology laboratory. The facility will be completed by a multipurpose auditorium for exhibitions and conferences, a documentary center and a theme restaurant, among other species.
